Prototype Evaluation

General Comments

From the peer evaluation of our low-fi prototype, we received feedback that the UI was largely clean and intuitive. Testers found the layout and navigation systems are generally easy to use. They raised several issues, which we have responded to as such for our high fidelity prototype (note that more details on its development can be found in a subsequent page):

Prototype 1

Skin Condition Log

Users felt that they should be able to upload photos as they can show more information than simple text descriptions, hence we have added such a feature.

Products

Users felt that it was too lengthy and detailed and that it is unlikely that users will read through the entire text, and that the text was too small and hard to read. They also suggested that users’ skin concerns (e.g. acne) should be directly associated with each product.

We have thus made this page more concise, only including the key ingredients, and added tags under the product which can also be tapped to search for other products serving this purpose.

We received feedback that users may not have the necessary knowledge to use the app if they are inexperienced with skincare products, especially in understanding the terminology. Therefore, we have added a glossary section which explains these terms.

Skin Condition Log, My Products, and Bookmarks

These pages were missing edit and delete functionality, which we have since added. In addition, users found separate “My Products” and “Bookmarks” pages confusing.

We thus added ways to edit and delete our entries into the application. Furthermore having both “My Products” and “Bookmarks” pages were unnecessary and that “Bookmarks” would suffice to include both shortlisted products and those which one currently owns.

Prototype 2

It might be better for users to only be able to add products from a database instead of uploading it themselves, as there might be inconsistencies and redundancies. This would also increase the legitimacy of the application

peereval_profile_proto2_edited.png

Users found the ‘Top Brands’ and ‘Last Breakout’ sections to not be very useful, some stating that they did not care about brands and would rely more on reviews. These have thus been removed, which also reduces the clutter on the Profile page.

Profile

Blacklist

There was no functionality to view all the products one had blacklisted; this has since been added.

Feedback Common to Both

Search

Some users felt that the product and ingredient search feature should be separated, while some preferred them to be combined. We believe we have found a compromise by integrated them into the same tab, while still allowing the user to clearly choose what to search for.

Navigation Bar

Some users were uncertain as to what the icons represented. We have updated the icons and included text, and also decided to create a guide for the app for first-time users.

Scan Cancelling

There was previously no function to cancel while using the scanner. We have made the navigation bar available while scanning to resolve this.

Other Changes Made

On top of the changes in the other features mentioned previously, we also added a brief user guide introducing new users to the features of the application as well as how to use them.
